From 2006 to 2016, Michela English was President and CEO of Fight For Children, where she successfully transitioned the organization to a sustainable, independent nonprofit with a strategic focus on early childhood education. During her tenure, she developed a highly skilled and professional staff, and a strong Board of Directors comprised of a diverse group of business and civic leaders. Michela became a leader in local education reform, serving as a Mayoral appointee and a board member for several prominent education-related initiatives and institutions. Following her retirement from Fight For Children, she remains on the Board and continues to be an active member of the organization and of the DC community. Prior to joining Fight For Children, Michela had a twenty-five year business career serving as a senior executive at Discovery Communications, the National Geographic Society, Marriott Corporation, and McKinsey and Company.
Michela serves on a number of corporate and nonprofit boards including the Gladstone Companies, the Educational Testing Service (ETS), DC Preparatory Public Charter School, the DC Public Education Fund, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS)
Michela and her husband Rob Quartel have two adult children. They split their time between Washington, DC, and Gwynn’s Island, Virginia, where she is an avid kayaker in the Chesapeake Bay.
