What We Believe

Sports are a lifeline for many young people. Every kid deserves to meet the sport that fits them. We translate community passion into systemic change, ensuring every child in our region has equitable access to the transformative power of sport.

our mission

We unite and fuel the youth sports community in the DC metro area so more young people can discover and access the life-changing power of sports.

our vision

All young people have equitable access to high-quality, impactful youth sports experiences and resources, regardless of their circumstances, finances or location.

Our Approach: A "Whole Child" Model

To maximize the potential impact and benefits on young people, we employ a comprehensive approach that consists of two parallel tracks working together to serve the whole child.

1

Youth Sports Collaborative

We build the protective backbone for DC’s youth sports ecosystem—rallying community, recruiting top leaders, fueling their growth with resources and training, and accelerating systemic change through collective advocacy.

Our Youth Sports Collaborative network of 37 organizations serves 45,000+ youth annually across 35+ sports, providing the structure and support grassroots leaders need to thrive.

2

Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center

Our $5 million investment in the Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center at Children’s National Hospital ensures young athletes can play safely and heal properly—regardless of their ability to pay.

This permanent community asset provides injury prevention, treatment, sports physicals, and wellness programs to underserved youth athletes.

3

EARLY ACCESS TO SPORTS

Through our Early Access to Sports program, young kids start their mornings playing, learning, and growing—discovering a range of sports before the school day begins.

4

FFC YOUTH SPORTS FUND

When sports reach every child, they spark lasting change that strengthens generations. The FFC Youth Sports Fund powers this vision by investing in youth and mobilizing a region-wide movement to ensure every young person in the DC metro area can access the benefits of sport.

The Challenge We're Addressing

Understanding the barriers that keep kids from discovering and participating in sports.

Sports are a lifeline for many young people. However, the growing privatization of youth sports has resulted in increased costs for programming and related services—costs that many low-income families cannot afford.

As a result, thousands of kids are being sidelined and missing out on the benefits associated with participation in youth sports: improved academic performance, better mental health, stronger social-emotional skills, and reduced risky behaviors.

Thankfully, there are a variety of local organizations providing accessible, free programs and equitable services to youth in underserved communities. These organizations serve a critical purpose for young people, providing a safe, fun, nurturing, and challenging environment where they can learn life skills and continue to thrive.

“These initiatives represent our late founder’s passion for helping underserved children, and our ongoing commitment to ensuring they stay active, healthy, and develop the tools necessary to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.”
