“World-Class Care for Our Community’s Young Athletes”
A state-of-the-art sports medicine facility providing injury prevention, treatment, sports physicals, and wellness programs to young athletes, regardless of their ability to pay. A $5 million investment ensuring kids can play safely and heal properly.
A Transformative Investment
Building permanent infrastructure that ensures DC metropolitan area youth athletes have access to world-class sports medicine care
In October 2019, Fight For Children announced a groundbreaking $5 million gift to establish the Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center at Children’s National Hospital, one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals.
This transformative investment creates a permanent community asset that addresses a critical gap: access to quality sports medicine care for youth athletes who might otherwise go without treatment.
“This isn’t just about treating injuries, it’s about ensuring every young person can play safely, heal properly, and continue pursuing the sports they love.” – James Kallusky, Ed.D. Fight For Children President & CEO
The Center represents Fight For Children’s commitment to a “whole child” approach, combining sports access with health and wellness infrastructure.
Accessible to All Young Athletes
The Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center at Children's National Hospital is committed to ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent young athletes from accessing quality care.
Regardless of Ability to Pay
We work with families to ensure every young athlete can receive the sports medicine care they need, with financial assistance available for those who qualify.
This commitment to access is core to Fight For Children’s mission: ensuring that the benefits of youth sports and the healthcare that supports safe participation are available to all children, not just those who can afford it.

Education & Prevention
Teaching young athletes, coaches, and families about injury prevention, proper technique, and healthy training habits.
Keep Kids Playing
Proper injury treatment and prevention allows young athletes to continue participating in the sports that build confidence, community, and life skills.
Early Intervention
Catching and treating injuries early prevents long-term health problems and ensures proper development during critical growth years.
Sport Medicine Center Mission
The Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center at Children’s National Hospital provides world-class sports medicine care to young athletes across the DC metropolitan area, with a special focus on ensuring access for underserved youth who face financial barriers to quality healthcare.
We believe that every young athlete deserves the opportunity to play safely, recover fully, and continue pursuing their athletic passions, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
A Legacy of Caring for DC's Youth
The Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center represents our founder Joseph E. Robert Jr.’s vision that every child should have access to the resources they need to succeed—both on and off the field.
Joe credited his early love of boxing and the life lessons it taught him with turning his life around. He understood that sports can transform lives, but only if young people have access to safe, healthy participation and the medical care that supports it.
This $5 million investment ensures that his legacy continues—providing world-class sports medicine care to DC’s young athletes for generations to come, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
“Joe believed that every child deserves the same opportunities that sport gave him. This Center is a permanent testament to that belief.” – David Fensterheim, Fight For Children Chairman
