Reflecting on 2024: Advocating for Equity in Youth Sports

As we close the chapter on 2024, we at Fight For Children are inspired, energized, and deeply grateful. This year has been nothing short of transformational – filled with milestones, impactful partnerships, and the unwavering power of community. Together, we’ve continued our mission to ensure equitable access to sports for underserved youth, because we know that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive through play.

Celebrating Our Impact: Together, We’re Breaking Barriers

This year, 37 nonprofit partners joined forces with us to empower 44,553 youth across the DMV region. Through more than 100 programs, young people had the chance to grow, connect, and build life skills that will shape their futures.

One of our proudest achievements was launching the FFC Leadership Council, a new initiative designed to amplify community voices and guide our mission. This milestone reaffirms our commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities by bringing leaders together to shape a brighter future for youth.

Youth Sports Days was another shining highlight, drawing more than 70 nonprofits, businesses and government agencies to support 2,000 family members in getting back to school and learning about impactful afterschool sports programs.  In addition, every professional sports team in DC was present. This event reminded us of the magic of sports—the way they unite people, inspire dreams, and create lasting memories for families and communities.

Advocating for Equity Through Storytelling

We believe in the power of storytelling to drive change. In 2024, we shared 12 blogs on the critical role of sports in improving education, mental health, physical well-being, and social-emotional growth. Through these narratives, we advocated for equitable access to sports and highlighted why it matters for every child, regardless of their background.

In addition, our 17 Champions for Change newsletters celebrated the achievements of our partners and youth. These updates not only showcased the resilience of the communities we serve but also brought to light the vital work still needed to ensure every child has a chance to play.

Building Opportunities, One Program at a Time

We’re especially proud that 100% of our nonprofit partners provide free or low-cost programming for families, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation. Together, we’re not just creating opportunities, we’re leveling the playing field for underserved youth.

Since 2020, the impact on our nonprofit partners through our collective effort has been extraordinary, shown in the following results:

  • 110% increase in youth served.
  • 75% of our partners have expanded their programs.
  • 91% of youth showed measurable growth in social-emotional learning.

These achievements reflect more than just numbers—they represent real lives changed through the power of equitable sports programs.

Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond

As we step into 2025, our work is far from over. We’re preparing to launch exciting new initiatives, expand partnerships, and deepen our impact in communities across the DMV. From innovative programs to larger-scale events, 2025 promises to be a year of even greater opportunities for the youth we serve—and we can’t wait to share it all with you.

But we can’t do it alone. Advocacy for equitable access to youth sports programs remains at the heart of everything we do, and your continued support is what fuels our mission.

Thank You for Standing With Us

None of this would be possible without you—our supporters, donors, volunteers, and champions. Whether you attended an event, shared our mission, or contributed in other ways, you’ve played a vital role in making 2024 an incredible year.

Together, let’s make 2025 even more impactful. With your help, we’ll continue breaking barriers, expanding opportunities, and proving that sports have the power to change lives.

From all of us at Fight For Children, thank you for believing in our mission. Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a New Year filled with hope, health, and endless possibilities.

Let’s make 2025 a year to remember!
