Sheherbano Burki is an International Development Specialist who has worked and consulted with the World Bank, The Asian Development Bank, and Grant Thornton on multimillion dollar socioeconomic programs in developing countries with a focus on poverty alleviation, provision and improvement of public services and social protection.
Sheherbano has an MSc in Economics and an MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London UK. She has lived and worked in five countries and travelled extensively, developing a unique understanding of the social issues prevalent in the world, strongly believing that the wellbeing of children is critical for the future of any nation.
She started Red Consulting in 2010 and as Managing Partner, has invested efforts in consulting with multilateral organizations invested in social impact programs. Her interest in the education of underprivileged children led her to consult with Teach the World Foundation as the Monitoring and Evaluation Lead, supporting the implementation of digital learning pilot programs for children in K to 5 grades in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Malawi.
Since 2010, she has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Washington DC Chapter of The Citizens Foundation (TCF), an award winning non-profit that has built and operates 1700 schools for more than 275,000 underprivileged children in Pakistan. She has helped the DC Chapter raise 15 Million dollars over the past decade, helping to organize and host their annual fundraising gala.
Sheherbano has extensive experience in the field of Marketing and Communications. As a business development manager at Orient McCann, she helped win the prestigious South Asian Federation Games (SAF) account in 2001 and managed the Marketing and Communications aspect of the project, including fund raising that made the event possible. She also set up and ran the Telebiz (a CNBC affiliate) office in North Pakistan. More recently she has led the launch of TrueCoverage USA, an online health insurance platform in four states.
Sheherbano is fluent in English, Urdu and Punjabi. Her interests include traveling, reading, playing tennis and the arts. She lives in Potomac, Maryland with her husband and two children.
