Joe Robert was a legendary business and civic figure in the Washington, DC area.
He was also a man of big ideas, and he had the determination and drive to turn those big ideas into reality. In Fight For Children, Joe created a unique, independent organization that brings the public and private sectors together to develop long-lasting, scalable solutions to the challenging problems facing children. Joe was particularly passionate about every child having access to a high quality education because he knew education was the one sure way that every child would have the chance to grow strong and become one of tomorrow’s leaders.
Before he passed away in 2012, Joe challenged Fight For Children to think boldly and to do even more to help low-income children in Washington succeed. He asked his friends and family to make sure Fight For Children remained strong so it could continue its important work. He also made an exceptionally generous $5 million pledge to support Fight For Children’s basic operations for five years so that more of the money Fight For Children raised would go directly to help children. In his honor, we launched Joe’s Champs in 2013.
In addition to Fight For Children, Joe was exceptionally generous to many other organizations in the area serving children, protecting the nation’s security, and honoring his faith.
